Despite it being a grey day, I thought a quick trip to the wetlands might be worth it, just to see what's going on. On the way there I came across a young Australian Hobby perched on powerlines, it was not at all concerned about my presence.
Maybe because it's duck hunting season, there are heaps of Teals and Pacific Black Ducks seeking refuge in the various wetlands where hunting is not permitted. I have even observed today at least four Chestnut Teals with hatchlings which must be there third brood for the season.
A Buff-banded Rail made a short appearance before making a rapid retreat into the heavy grass, almost got a good shot, maybe next time.
