Crabs on the march

The sand seemed to be alive at Reed Island. The tide was low and thousands of crabs were moving about, I'm not sure if they were feeding or going through some ritual but I have never seen this performance before.

Double-banded Plovers and Red-necked Stints

Double-banded Plover

Double-banded Plovers have returned from New Zealand and I found quite a few feeding with Red-necked Stints at Flinders foreshore. There were also 12 Ruddy Turnstones in the group.

A Galah in the Backyard

Some young Galahs have taken up residence in a gum tree alongside my shed. They are quite noisy and mischievous, but always entertaining.

I haven't been to Braeside Park for a while and I was quite surprised to find paths had been cut through the reeds that allowed me to go places that I haven't been before. A family of Darters were present near the bird hide and offered good photo opportunities.

Blue-billed Duck and Freckled Duck

A terrible day, typical of this terrible summer, but it was a worthwhile day at Coolart wetlands when I was able to get god view of a Blue-billed Duck and a Freckled Duck.
