Port Phillip Storm

I visited Arthur's Seat State Park yesterday for a family BBQ and on the way down I could see a massive storm system crossing Port Phillip Bay. A few snaps later and the rain and hail was pelting down, I had to pull over in a small parking lot to wait for it to blow over as visibility was down to 5 metres.

Making a Splash

A short journey to Patterson River and as I sat on the riverbank a Great Egret put on a display splashing in the water and doing sharp turns while it was jumping about. It was quite a spectacle but a bright sun coming from the right made it a bit difficult to get the right exposure.

Brown Falcon

Phillip Island is a great location for birds of prey and this Brown Falcon posed long enough for me to get some quick snaps. I found this bird on the Ventnor Rd but at the back of Summerlands on the ocean road there were kestrels, harriers and kites.

Cranbourne Botanic

A short trip to Cranbourne Botanical gardens proved worthwhile when a couple of Black Shouldered Kites allowed for a good photo opportunity. (I had to crop the 2nd shot quite a bit) The White Faced Heron also posed for a quick shot.

Patterson River, Victoria

Easter Sunday was a quiet and after the storms on Friday night I knew the river would be running so it was worth a look. I was greeted by several little black cormorants and the usual black ducks and pelican which always seem to be there.

As an added bonus a great egret flew in and three darters did a flyby.
