WTP Werribee

An incredibly windy day at the Western Treatment Plant and most of the birds were in hiding. The highlight of the day was a Wedge Tailed Eagle which alighted from a paddock alongside Austins Rd and then flew over me suspended by the wind.

Unfortunately I unknowingly knocked the camera settings and the photos didn't come out as good as I would have liked. A Little Egret allowed me to get close and a family of Black Swans was obliging.

White Fronted Chats are everywhere as are White Necked Herons.

Duck Day Afternoon

Plenty of ducks at Coolart Wetlands today, the highlight being a Blue-billed Duck. The usual Chestnut Teals were abundant and in the mood for love, as well as Australian Shovelers and a solitary Hardhead.

This Tawny Frogmouth was sitting in a gum tree in my backyard today, I couldn't resist taking its photo.

Nesting Ibis at Coolart

Lots of rain and high water levels at Coolart has led to a good breeding season for the Ibis at Coolart wetlands. Many eggs have hatched and the air is filled with the constant noise generated by hungry young birds crying for attention. The non breeding immatures are also noisy as they imitate the older breeding Ibis.
