Red Capped Plover Nest and Eggs

The Red Capped Plover might end up as endangered as the Hooded Plover. They build their nest just beyond the high tide mark on beaches and are easily disturbed by dogs and human traffic.

The top 2 photos show a nest on Reef Island and they should be safe from predators with human traffic the most likely danger. The plover in the 2nd photo is feigning injury.

The next 2 photos show a single egg at Jam Jerrup with a sole parent. This area is frequented by unrestrained dogs and will probably get eaten.

Dog owners need to be more responsible during breeding season and a public awareness campaign would be a good idea.
